In the framework of the Corporate & Industrial Energy Summit, MIREC 2018, Grupo Bimbo received the award for Best Corporate Energy User 2018 in Mexico, which recognizes the firm work of the company with the most efficient use of resources and sustainability.

The award also ratifies Grupo Bimbo's commitment to caring for the planet, through various sustainable initiatives focused on reducing its environmental impact, taking care of resources, and making this world a better place for present and future generations.

On this recognition, Irene Espínola, Global Manager of Renewable Energy at Grupo Bimbo, commented:

At Grupo Bimbo, we work every day to take care of our surroundings. This award motivates us to continue along the same sustainable path, which is leading us to the fact that, by the third quarter of 2019, the Company is globally 75% renewable, and, in countries like the United States, it is positioned as the first bakery to get 100% of its energy from renewable sources”.

It is important to mention that Grupo Bimbo has been constantly at the forefront in terms of energy, incorporating new technologies into its operations to make better use of resources worldwide.

Among some of the most important actions in energy, the following stand out:

• For the third quarter of 2019, Grupo Bimbo will obtain 75% of its energy from renewable sources worldwide and will be the first bakery company in the United States to be 100% renewable. This figure will be reached thanks to the agreement signed with Invenergy for 100 megawatts of energy, from the Santa Rita East wind farm, located in Texas, United States, in addition to avoiding 260,000 tons of CO2 per year.

• The Piedra Larga Wind Farm, dedicated to Grupo Bimbo, supplies clean energy to operations in Mexico. With 45 wind turbines and an installed capacity of 90 MW, it prevents the emission of 180 thousand tons of CO2 annually, equivalent to using 60 million liters of diesel, or supplying the annual energy consumption of 45,000 homes.

• In 2018, the company inaugurated "Bimbo Solar", which in its first stage will consolidate 33 distributed generation systems that together will have an installed capacity of 3.7 MW and will avoid annual emissions of 2,500 tons of CO2, equivalent to suspending the use of 3,115 barrels of oil or the planting of 120 thousand trees.

• Grupo Bimbo has a sustainable fleet of 350 electric vehicles, which prevent the emission of 4.2 tons of CO2 annually. By 2018 there will be an additional 80 cars, not forgetting that Grupo Bimbo has 185 delivery trucks that run on natural gas in Mexico and the United States.

• Currently, Grupo Bimbo has five ecological sales centers, which operate with electric vehicles that are supplied with energy from the Piedra Larga wind farm. In addition, it combines different initiatives in terms of environmental care such as rainwater collection and green walls, among others.
