As part of its commitment to sustainability and the environment, Grupo Bimbo has signed a Declaration of Support for the objectives of the Cerrado Manifesto, a call to stop deforestation in a Brazilian ecosystem that covers an area of 2 million square kilometers, and that suffers the erosion of its territory by the cultivation of soybeans and the existence of livestock.

This initiative, launched three months ago by 23 global companies, has tripled the number of signatories to 61 companies, among which is Grupo Bimbo, and has been released today by the Tropical Forest Alliance 2020 in the framework of the 2018 edition of the World Economic Forum (WEF), which takes place every year in Davos, Switzerland.

“At Grupo Bimbo we celebrate and join this important initiative. Today, Cerrado needs responsible actions that protect its biodiversity. Let this be just one of many success stories for the conservation of our ecosystems. Let's continue advancing in the care of our environment to bequeath a better planet to the generations to come,” stated Daniel Servitje, President and CEO of Grupo Bimbo.

One of the objectives of the Closed Manifesto is to promote sustainable and planned agriculture in this area of Brazil. The set of signatory companies has recognized and assumed the need to support development and growth in the regions that produce soy in a way that contributes to the reduction of deforestation, such as making use of 24.5 million hectares of land suitable for agriculture.

The priority is the integration of a working group to develop a plan of implementation for actions that help achieve the objectives of the Declaration of Support to the Manifesto of the Cerrado, since only joint work will make enough progress to achieve safer food systems and reach the objectives of sustainable development and climate.

In this way, Grupo Bimbo reaffirms once again its commitment to work on a sustainable path for a better world. To learn about the statement issued in Davos, visit www.tfa2020.org/en/2402-2/
