Grupo Bimbo started today its participation in the fifth edition of the Green Business Summit organized by the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Campus Mexico City. The core of this year’s program will be: " MIPYMES AND GREENING OF THE VALUE CHAIN".

During the first day, Mr. Ignacio Montoya, Manager of Technical Studies from the Vehicles Direction from Grupo Bimbo, participated in the forum entitled "Reducing CO2 Emissions in Supply Chains", exposing some of the practices that the company has implemented to reduce the environmental footprint of its operations, its main objective regarding sustainability programs.

Among the new practices of the company, Mr. Montoya highlighted the renewal of the distribution fleet and the increasing tendency to incorporate vehicles with electric engines in order to reduce fuel consumption and emissions to the environment. This has enabled the company to participate voluntarily in the Clean Transportation Program of the Mexican Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), obtaining better results every year.

Since 2007, through the program "Committed to the Environment", Grupo Bimbo has consolidated itself as a company at the forefront of sustainability issues. Recently, with the objective of increasing its contributions to the preservation of the environment, the company created the "Sowing Together" program, which “planet” pillar allows to implement programs and environmental initiatives under four action lines: Carbon Footprint Reduction, Water Footprint Reduction, Integrated Waste Management, and Conservation Improvement of the Environment, which together allow the company to reduce its environmental footprint.

Meanwhile, Alejandra Vázquez, Sustainability Manager of Grupo Bimbo, will serve as moderator of the Panel: "Energy Efficiency in the Manufacturing Sector in Mexico". In 2012 Grupo Bimbo launched the Piedra Larga wind farm, which supplies electricity from a clean and renewable source to all its facilities in Mexico, thus attaining one of its most ambitious projects to reduce the environmental footprint of its operations and adopt a 100% sustainable model.

Additionaly, more than 1,700 volunteers, Bimbo associates and their families, planted recently 14,000 trees in four areas of the Federal District, the State of Mexico and Jalisco, in the framework of the Days of Reforestation 2013, organized by Bimbo, Reforestamos México and the Pro Zona Mazahua foundation.

Grupo Bimbo recognized the value of these conferences, which promote the incorporation of green actions in all business and industrial initiatives, factors that the company has managed to align with its commitment to sustainability.
